Paris (241st Gen Hsp)
4 Nov. 45 Sun.
Hi, darlin’,
Not as I dreamed——
c̅[1] you beside me in the good
ol’ Big Ten——but alone
I saw my first football game
today. It was between the
Seine (Paris elete) Base “Comets” & the
Oise Base “Red Devils” in a
Paris stadium. Not only was
I fur da Oise-boys because
they were the underdogs but
because (#1) I can wear a USFET
shoulder patche c̅ OISE embro[i]dered
underneath it if I wish (via my
189th G.H. assignment) (#2) they wear
[2]
uniforms exactly like U of Wis[consin]
as to color (#3) the only Wisconsin
boy on either team was on
Oise (from Monticello, Wis—Dad use to hunt
ducks there as a member of the famous “Tillicum
Gun Club”) & (#4) it was double
satisfaction seeing the elete,
always-get-everything, hoggish
Paris-boys get beat—to
not get something (towit, victory) for
a change. Anyhoooo, Oise 14
Seine 13 in the wildest,
most scatterbrain games you
have ever seen. It was so
er[r]atic & wild at times that it
almost made ya laugh. P.S. A
truck took & brought patients from the hosp
front door. Butttttttt, geeeeeeeee,
how I wish my hawney & I
were holding hands at Camp
Randall Stadium instead. Once
upon a time, in early Z-I[2] days,
I’d have bet $100 we would get
[3]
to go to a game together but—
lookie how The Med. Chain can
snafu, bungle, & “inadequize” (whadda word!).
I never reped too many
times that 2 bed rolls are
enroute via Parcel Post. Id
hate to lose any of either, but
especially I’d hate to lose the
electro-16m.m.-camera in one &
my beaver short coat in the
other. AND! pleeeeeez, dont
you dare try to wash a single
thing inside either bed roll—
the stuff is just too damn
filthy from upfront-War & too
loaded c̅ D.D.T.-powder—
LET A COMMERICIAL LAUNDRY DO IT.
Again! [sigh][3] yes again [sigh][4]
they say we are supposed to
[4]
get out of here this week (next 7 days).
Air-evac. gets farther & farther
away as to possibility each
day, so that means 8½X to 10½X
longer a trip via boat. We
shall see again [sigh][5] what we
shall see again ! [sigh][6].
Gosh, darlin’, how I ache to
see you & Terry[7] ! How I
ache to see America—how
I ache to see H-O-M-E—
where I can forever say—
All my love to you, dearest,
Dave
