Somewhere—France

Thanksgiving Day – AM

[As

I just couldn’t write

yesterday. Please,

dear, never forget

some letters may seem

sorta weird

because the ones

written before just

haven’t as of that

particular moment

arrived in your

hands.][1]

Dearest,

If I hurry I’ll be able (maybe)

to get this letter into a mail-out-

let. Anyhooooo, its such a privelege

& pleasure to be able to “say” to you

I love you! I love you! I love love &

feel half sure it will reach your

eyes.

Things being as they are I don’t

imagine I’ll be near where turkey

& cranberries are possible. [in just

a short time][2]. I honestly don’t care

because I know you & Terry[3] are

for sure having turkey & cranberries

and THAT’S ALL THAT MATTERS

TO ME IN THIS WHOLE WIDE WORLD.

Just tell Mom that you & Terry can & should have

my helpings of her super-druper-prepared turkey.

Again, the Lord was so darned

good to me—HE ARRANGED

4 LETTERS FOR ME (whoopie!) Just

before I left to go on this new

“loaning-out.” [on which I am still enroute.][4]

One letter was from Alice & Andy McGee

& the other was from Mrs Edith Green

And!—then 2 from you; one written

[2]

Election Day all about our (note!—“our”)

socio-economico-political hopes

for America; & the other one on Nov 10th.

Answers to your Nov 10th [hurriedly][5] are:-

(1) Ummm! Continuous hand-holding

in shows is hereby, towit, etc

unanamously voted & passed! Yup!

(2) Gee, I’m glad you bought a crib—

why, Hell! pretty soon (maybe a day or

two more) you’ll have to buy a full

sized Simmons bed for my pal.

Afterall—his Pop was only

6 feet 1 inch tall at the age of

12 yrs (or 13 yrs). Golly! 235/8 inches, hmm!

Guess I never told you I was just a

wee but partial [for Oconomowoc loyalty

reasons][6] to Carnation canned milk.

(3) Kuiru’s car fixing will someday

let him get his “clock-fixed” by

some {body, time, place[7]. For weeks I have forgotten [meant][8]

to tell you to get the care painted

BLUE if your judgement so

deems it. Honest! (4) I too (from this

“long-range diagnosis) agree c̅[9]  you that

Terry’s constipation may be the

whole [or greatest][10] part of his {restlessness, yipping[11].

No, dearest, he gets that (QUOTE)

[3]

“obstinate” [UNQUOTE you][12] streak from

his Pop & not not this adorable

Mother as you wrote. (4) My one &

only disappointment in all my [your][13] letters

from [to][14] France is that you have not as

yet learned that I am in France.

When I saw those last 2 waiting

for me (as on page #1 & #2) I felt so sure

you would know where I was

but no-soap. [Other fellows wives haven’t heard either.][15] Shucks! and Shucks!

(5) You ask about my feelings re:

Massachusetts-et al—dearest,

to me too it was a dream—a

beautiful dream just ‘cuz you

were c̅ me. (6) I’m pleased about

Mrs Harringtons $8. Say! do the

allotments come through decently?

They’d better or I’ll break some necks.

(7) Often I have meant to ask—

was the Columbia, SC proof that

you said was (QUOTE) “good & natural etc”

a smiling “shot” or not. Gee, I hope

  1. I do see how you’d feel about

a “soldier-picture” as over & against

wedding-pictures, etc, etc, old ones.

(8) TERRY, OL’ BOY: - Just don’t you let

Mother razz us about our appetites!

[4]

Thanks for telling me the

details of Harry Roantree McLean’s

mode of traveling to visit you.

Well, it certainly is the most

fascinating & interest-full way of

traveling.

There is only one (real) question in

your Nov. 7th letter to answer—

dearest, its true that we are both

undergoing changes in our (QUOTE)

“outlook…..way of thinking…..”

We may be, too, experiencing as you

say a change of (QUOTE) “soul”—

however, it is, it is, it is! (as

regards the soul) a deepening & greater

loving [if such could be possible][16] of you.

Thus, it is all God-guidedly for

the better. Not for a wee moment

do I fear that challenge [you speak of][17] of

coming back together again.

Well, dear, the pilgrims once

were thankful on this day—

I as much & even more are soooo

God-thankful that He has been

helping & keeping you & Terry so

super-special—Gosh! how I

yearn to be a part of this Helping-

And-Keeping of you & Terry! All my love,

Dave
