Somewhere—France

With 7th Army

29 Nov 44—Later Eve

Apparently back c̅[1] gang for good

Hi, dearest,

So as to keep “sequences”

straight, I didn’t get the chance to

write you yesterday. Work was so

constant [I cant say more][2] that it was

a 100% impossibility to write. However

it surely is good to be “talking” to

you again. Just a little while ago I

learned we may, before long, get the

chance to read your “talks” to me

again — this is a complicated

way of saying — [whoopie!][3] a

Post office is going to advance up

behind us in a day or two, & wont

be too far as to snafu mail service.

Dog-gone-it! there are a million

things that try to keep jumping off

the end of this pen — all about

what we are doing & stuff, but I

dont dare write them. One thing

I can write in generalities is that

the overall plan of managing

Germany is not going to be “milk-

and-honey” [sucker-like-American-nice-boys

as in the past dealings][4].

[2]

Both you & I knows this is not

Gods way — the Foreward Day By Day

way — of (lets say) “Doing Unto Others,”

But, such is the set up as of present.

Interestingly, I can again

write you that I sleep where Germans

slept only a very short time ago. It

surely seems funny to think that

this room was filled c̅ German-Jaber

so recently. [Guess I can’t express this feeling

in writing, as I would like to][5].

Starting 24 hrs from now I

go on a night shift in the operating

room so I can’t promise as to the

caliber of my letters for awhile to

come. However, I’ll have a chance to

write for sure — in other words

being scheduled will help a lot

as to finally having some truely definite

time to write you.

Gosh, dearest, all of a sudden I’m

so tired [guess its a hang-over from the severe

fatigue we all had yesterday][6], so I’ll stop.

Gee, I hope I get a letter from you soon

as I can seem to write so much

better if I have that swell “stimulus”

of your letters. Soooo, goodnite darlin’

to you & Terry[7] — Terry will kiss

you goodnite for me.

All my love,

Dave
