Dearest,
Probably I shouldn’t be writing letters right
now as I’m kinda dead—slept 1:30-3:30AM
in the car seat at Fargo & 1:30-3:30PM here on your bed.
The rest of the time I’ve been working likity-split.
1st I cleaned up & chased all over Bis[marck] to find
Dr Brandt Alexis. Finally found him at St. Alexis & described
Mass → Mayos. 2nd I washed 15 diapers, 3 shirts & one
kimona (P.S. Tell mom this someday—the diaper part. Ho! Ho! Ho!)
3rd I ate c̅[1] Dad at noon. 4th I had him show me
where Fairview was so I could take a talisman rose (3)
for me, for you, & for Thump[2] to an ol’ give friend of mine.
[My! My! just turn ones back = out of sight → out of mind — ‘n I
start chiseling on you by taking flowers to other girls! Oh, me!][3]
5th We went to the bank for noon-hour business. It is
all a pretty complicated story but this is the summary:—
Dad personally requests us not to cash our war bonds;
as a result of his thought, he 24 hours ago signed a $200
note on our behalf using our war bonds as collateral; he
retrieved his signature this noon & asked me to resign
a similar note (using same bonds); it takes 8 days to
cash a bond via St Paul central office; instead a Mr Mayer
in the bank says “Wait until Emily gets home as it is a
30 day note & by Oct 1st all banks are going to be able
to cash War Bonds (per new regulation) right at their own
windows; thus you can retrieve the note on Oct 7th
by either bank-window-bond-cashing or by account (savings)
[2]
money already their ($219+ in at present [(seems silly doesn’t to borrow $200 c̅ $219 in but Dad had already done it.)][4] & $257 coming Oct 2nd or 3rd
from Ft. Jackson). 6th I went to P.O. to have a $50 money order
made out BECAUSE DAD SAYS he can always us another
pink savings withdrawal slip (signed & enclosed) to send you
any more that you need. I explained that since I bought
your R.R. ticket already & you had $30+ in cash, you
might get by on what you will have after the P.O. Money Order
is cashed. I really wanted to send you at least $100
but he said just wait & see—really dear, I
think he thinks so hard about our not cashing war
bonds that the rest of his financial rationalizations are
a little bit mixed up. But—so as to just
let things go s̅[5] too much talk, I said OK & it will
be alright as Bis. is close to Rochester and & pink slips can
move rapidly.
lastly, the P.O. $50 Money Order will be enclosed in a
registered letter containing the R.R. tickets tomorrow. The
good Lord was with us in at least 4 respects regarding
that RR bedroom, but I’m too tired to describe the 4
respects right now. (P.S. Plane = $94, sending M.O. of $50, I have balance of the $200 for Ft Jck.[6])
Oh yes—7th (above) I unpacked in a “2/3rds manner”
all transported effects after unloading the car. This all look
a lot of “piddeling” time to use up even the greater part of this
evening. Main reason was to help you of course, but the
2nd reason was to get all of Thumps things on one table
so you could just write & say — “Mail such ‘n such off the
bedroom table.”
I’m just dead, dear, so I’ll close c̅ AllmyLove
P.S. While I think of it — I don’t imagine [though I maybe u wrong][7]
Thump will for some time gain weight as fast; sit as soon;
teethe as soon; walk as soon; etc, etc as Baby Glutz BUT HE’LL DO ‘EM!
PS your sweet letter came 9AM.
