Somewhere–France

[1] 7th Army

2 Mar 45 @ 6PM

Wheeeee, darlin’!

I just received & enclosed

the enclosed cablegram from Dad & just

finished a V-mail in answer to it.

Ill enclosed [sic] this for your scrap book

as it is “worthy”–––being the

first cable I ever received.

As an “addendum-like” to Dad’s

V-mail I want to just assure

something by a panoramic discussion

[& it isn’t a military secret][2]: In warfare

there is the first (& “hugest”) division

of warfare called THEATER (viz Etousa[3]

Theater, CBI[4] Theater, Natousa[5] Theater, etc);

→ARMY GROUP is a “bunching” of 2 or

more Armies (viz the 1st Free French Army

plus the 7th Army = the 6th Army-Group);

→ARMY→CORPSS→DIVISIONS→REGIMENTS

→BN’S[6]→COMPANIES→PLATOONS→SQUADS.

I dont mean to “insult” you, dear, by

writing this but so many of the wives

who read that (rep. 3X) Assoc Press’

account about the “glamorous” 116th

[2]

saw the article headed

as 6th Army Group &

right away thought (1) the A.P. was

crazy (& thus even made corrections in ink on the

newspaper cut out) or (2) thought there

husbands had been lying to them about

being in the 7th Army, while all the

time they really were in the 6th Army

(where in “Hell” ever that is – I don’t believe it

even exists). OK, dear?—no hard

feelings?—OK!

The novocaine inserters are not

[illegible deletion] slipping a single bit. Infact

I’m so glad you wrote about the

novocaine inserters. I’ll remember

all about them.

Again no mail today. Im not

as bad off as some because I have

been getting a letter from you every

4th or 5th day—but some of the

116th are really burned up re: the service

recently.

Dobie just came—gotta

stop, dear

All my love,

Dave
