Dearest,
I’m so excited & pleased I
can hardly write!! For the 1st
time in 7 mos. I am going to
see somebody I really know &
have known “from-way-back”—
Dobie Fields (Clydes brother) is
way up 6 miles or more in
North Camp (Ft. Jck.[1]). Lordy! Ive
hunted, drank beer, & everything
c̅[2] Dobie. Gee! dearest, it [will][3] feels [sic]
good to finally be able to see
someone you know. We only
talked [on phone][4] very briefly bu [& will
talk more this evening after he &
Kay (his wife, whom I also know)] pick me
up @ 6 PM][5] but I learned Clyde
is at this moment at P.O.E.[6],
& that Dobie may be very close
to me in future weeks. Gee! golly!
whoopie! [More “dope” in tomorrows letter][7].
[2]
Because time is awfully short
until Dobie & Kay pick me up (& I won’t
have my usual evening to write you) I
am afraid this won’t be much
of a letter. I know you will
forgive me & understand. Anyway,
here are a few “quickies”:—
(1) I’m glad that you judged
Thump[8] should stay at St Marys
until train reservation time.
(2) Several times here lately
I surely could have cussed
Dad for not letting us convert
that $375 worth of bonds. P.S.
A full $259 [US Army check][9] should have been deposited
in the Bio bank 2 days ago. It makes
me feel badly that you have to
do “money-juggeling” there in
Rochester. Im use to it from way back
so I hardly even notice the difference.
(3) Keep all things like the
2 enclosed slips that I have or
might send you. They belong in
my 201 File but I have never
really kept much of a 201 File
[3]
since that infedelity Carlisle
buzzard lost so much important
stuff out of my “stolen” overcoat
pocket. Anyhooo, all such as
these can make your scrapbook
“important”.
(4) While whizing down & back
from town today to buy Terrill
David Wilsey’s Expert Pistol
Medal I stuck my head into
the photo studio just for the
curiosity of seeing the proofs
but they don’t come back until
tomorrow morning—guess I
never will see my silly mug
until I come back, now.
(5) Yes, m’love, I gave the studio the Bis[marck]
address way back when. Remember that
stuff that often makes Life so heckling—
that stuff called foresightedness.
(6) Madam! you ain’t woofin’
one bit when you say about
Thump (QUOTE)—“GEE, HE’S
A HONEY FOR SURE!!” (UNQUOTE).
[4]
(7) If you had copied Sarah’s
address into the address book
I would send this letter there but
now I don’t know just what
to do. If I send it to Roch. it
will be wrong—& same
goes for Bis. (via so slow). Oh, me!
(8) When I you get ready to talk
to me on your Birthday, be ready
to let me know for sure that
you understand that Numerologist
stuff. (From your letter I have just a wee bit
of doubt). Anyhooo, naturally the
Numerologists’ number, per se, (duck!)
is significant but the word
that follows that number is
an integral part of what I
was writing you. You did “get”
this didn’t you?? Newspapers
in the future may or may not
help you if you understand the
number & the word that follows
- Really, what I think your letter does, is
just be a little bit “silly” itself. Huh??
[5]
(9) Even-Flo bottles are very
fine. Remember I asked Frank
Brown & Anne to try to buy some
in Boston but there were unsuccessful.
(10) Even though you joked
about Thump making you throw
away 4 oz sized bottles (or throw you out)
don’t forget, at least, what Lt.
Gillespie says about how his
kiddie didn’t ever get up into
hoggish amounts of formula
until almost a year of age.
How on earth your Sundays
airmail beat your Saturdays
airmail I don’t know but it did.
Have you had a letter every
single day (as to ultimate arrival)?
Once in a while I get suspicious
of spot-censoring as it comes
at any time & might cause
a daily-unfailingness to have a
gap in it. (Please answer).
[6]
Gee, dearest, I’d love to
write more but I just must
shave & maybe take a shower
before I meet Dobie & Kay in a
very few minutes.
I love you & Thump so
fully—— c̅
A.M.L.[10]
