Somewher|else|yet–Germany

22 Apr 45 c̅[1] 7th Army 10PM

Dearest,

I sent another “letter” already today but I thought

Id better “make-hay” & write an actual letter while

outgoing/incoming service is at least mediocrely (sp?)

established. [The “letter” this AM was just Jean McElrott’s

4 pager & 2 really curious-clever-cute-amusing pages from

a French girl MD whom I trained while on D.S. to us—even though

her English is sorta odd due to being foreign-to-it—nevertheless

French people think-phrase-concieve things in many ways

just as she wrote.][2]

AND!—your Apr 3rd’s & 4th’s were

waiting after I got off 1 hr & 40 minutes late-tonight

after trying to save a good looking German 8 yr old

boy who had stepped on a mine c̅ resultant 9 holes

in his intestines, half a foot off, & hundreds of min[e]

fragments in his upper legs-arms & face. Just as

your Apr 3rd’s:—“….have children(/“children”) to

allow some blood thirsty criminal to sic his friends

on them, torture them, maim them, & finally kill

them.” [UNQUOTE EMILY ELIZABETH BELK WILSEY AND D.B.W.][3]

This general theme was your entire letter (AND RIGHTFULLY SO)

so all left to answer is “tanks” for the 2 stamps.

Oh yes—[rep][4] the English are to blame/fault/guilt

for so much in this world, Em—this just

cant be “handled” on paper but take it as true from

a “someone-who-was-there-Charlie.”

Your Apr 4th’s:—Please copy off what Doris

Settle McNulty telegraphed you if Im not too “nosey.”

(P.S. Wanna know a secret—I asked & tried to pay her for a telegram—

its my general impression that you like telegrams—so, I tries to pleeez!)

[2]

Gosh I hope you get “The Problem of Pain.” Even more

so I hope & wait for those anesthesia Board questions

out of the Journal. Pleeeez, darlin’—I will have to

study just like fury—& it seems so much time is

lost already—pleeeeez!

Reading your cute-vivid-&“seeable” description

about eager beaver toothed Thumper[5] just “purrred” me

all over. It also reminds me to tell you that today

I read over all those parts I have cut out & saved from

your letters ever since I left you in Rochester. Hmmm!

For $1,000,000,000.59 Ill let you read them when I get

home. Anyhooo, this eager beaver paragraph is another

one that I’ll dream-purrrr-revel over many times

(along c̅ the others) in weeks to come.

Thanks for mentioning the box you are about

to send. None of your recent ones (tonic, pkg) have come

although the [rep][6] printing paper did come through in

15 (or 16) days! While on pkg-subjects—Mrs

Green answered my long-ago request by sending me a

batch of nice vitamins. Which reminds me——

I felt very badly to learn 2 days ago from Dr R’s letter

that she perforated a gastric ulcer while sitting right

infront of him some weeks ago & he operated her

4 hrs later——her post operative course has been

stormy & he feared he’d have to drain an abdominal

abscess. Please write her dearest——please——she

liked you so, & was so kind & good & selfless as

regards you & I so many times——so many times

I never even let you know about. Infact———

for her I have “The Love Of a Friend”, & I believe she too for

  1. Sooooo, (its late) & The Love Of My Life & Living is you,

Dave
