24 June 45

Hi, dearest,

I was out in a dead-faint for 8 hours

today—for the second day in a row! mail

condescended to arrive bringing two! from

you—wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

However, between falling asleep this PM

while having to sit around “on-call” (Anesth.),

PLUS 2 anesthesias tonight brings it up to

10:40PM before I get to answerin’ your

letters. honest, dear, this amount of work

we do here is a joke—& thus we

just “rot” day in & day out; getting

lazier, “rotier,” & fatter every week. Woe, me!

Your June 7th’s:- was a “quickie”

midst the [unending][1] Dakota monsoon season.

Gosh! what it must be to go through a

Pacific monsoon season. Vellll!?!?

There’s nothing to really answer in your letter—except to

meekly suggest, based on a remark of yours:— Cant you

be gone from 8 some morning till 8 some night, darlin’, when

Terry[2] is in one of his “good-as-gold” streaks? Yes, yes, I know

you’d think about him every minute & normally so,

but the scenery-change would help. A second choice is

the two of you guys back yourselves off for a days “picinic”

in some meadow, river, or woods. He is old enough.

Sorta you go c̅[3] him to a Pewees Nest [Eagles Nest?][4]?? He will pitch for me.

[2]

Your June 15th’s:— No, darlin’, Terry’s

E.F.M.[5] didnt arrive as yet. By the way, did Dad’s

Father’s Day EFM get there on time—IT SHOULD

HAVE! Which circuitously reminds me—

“S. & S.”[6] is repeatedly (“hint-ively” =?) telling every

day how a person can telephone from England

to N.Y.C. for only $12 (probably $16 or $17 to N. Dak). Gosh,

how I’d like to get a crack at that! But—

my lottery number of leaves is #27 &

only #5 has gone in over 5 weeks, so you

can see how slim my chances are of

even getting a leave—let alone the

“break” of getting to England.

See! Whadda I telled ya, even before,

in letters?—Terry can (AND WILL)

kerplunk himself all over the place. The

left ear is only #2 part of his anatomy

containing at least #400 possibilities.

Anyhooo, Precious, dont you ever worry,

‘cuz I certainly dont—‘n what’s

more, if Sloppy Joe Wilitzski[7] was setting,

placing, fixing him he’d have been up

to #10 anatomical-part already. Seeeeeee!

Ho, ha, hum! You made a very

adept & accurate “analogy” s̅[8] knowing it,

dear. You compared/“balanced” a 2 year

[3]

Jap war as about equivalent to the mess-

nuiscance-“horror” of being in Vet’s Admin..

So help me, the V.A. is 49%-bad as again[st]

Jap war 51%-bad, in my mind. Hell, dear,

a doc wouldnt have a brain cell, an

ambition, a scruple, or a judgement

left to his name after 2 yrs in the V.A.

P.S. For your information, they are slapping Army docs into V.A.

just as fast as they can even find a fragmentary excuse.

Our (Xray) Capt George Lull (a General’s son) was in V.A. pre war,

& it was so sooo bad he chose/“finigeled” to keep himself

in Paris (away from his wife & 2 babies) for 8 to 11 months more

rather than go back to V.A. He’s leaving us tomorrow

morning. [Which reminds me—I never

mentioned that our maxilla-surgeon, a

dentist Major from Chey[e]nne, Wyoming got

“scooted” (½ via C.O. spite) into the 127th Evac.

some 2 weeks ago as they were staging

for C.B.I. [9] via Marsielles & Suez. Humm!][10]

Im tickeled to learn that a second

order for Dairyland cheese has been placed.

I hadn’t ever received that data previously.

Guess I should “hit-the-hay,” dear—

‘n maybe I could dream of you Two—

who have—Allmylove & prayers,

Dave

P.S. The last 6 to 8 “reps” remain as iz—I could kiss you

in latter Sept or early Oct. when a Second-3-Month-Shipping-List

is made up in August.
