Hi, darlin,

This is a bit “irregular” as to my usual

writing-routine—towit, sitting in the Doctors

Dressing Room after giving an appendix-spinal which

ends at all time inconvenient for zipping into a

show. Usually I go to the 63rd Div. Theaters first

show @ 6PM—tonight I’ll have to go to their

second show at 8 (or is it 8:15) P.M. Which reminds

me—I imagine my life is kinda like

yours at Warm Springs (& Denver); have a movie

practically every night in the “S.O.P.” of your life.

Which also reminds me—I dont believe

I ever put into words how {uncanny “psychic” accurate prognosticative}[1] you

are re: your appraisal of movies. Remember how

we saw “Going My Way”—you said point

blank, just like the Chairman of the “Oscar” Committe,

“that show wins prizes (“Oscars”); Fitzgerald as “the”

character-part-of-the-year, Crosby as…, etc, etc.”

AND EVERY BIT CAME TO PASS—

you ol’ move {diagnostician executive}[2] you!

Some 27, 28, or 29 days ago I began a series of

“reps” about the date “Aug 15th-Et al”; then for [last][3] some

10, 11, 12 “reps” there has been an “ammendment” to

the effect of advancing the date to “Later Sept (early Oct) Et al.”

The latter still stands—I hope! I hope! I hope! Last night

I wrote for the first time re: words out of the CO’s mouth

which is routinely clam[m]ed shut smugly, that strongly

[2]

are indicative of our being here at least 6 wks more

(THE NEARER TO V-J M’DEAR), & that when we do leave we

are supposed to P.O.E. out of Le Havre (WHICH IS 97% SURE

FOR N.Y.C. DEBARKATION—though 3% have streamed right

through Panama Canal out of Le Havre). As “reped” before

we are, of course, Class II [definition = Pacific intended][4].

Lets hope so hard that God doesn’t “intend”[5] as does

General Marshall! [P.S. Damnitall! there is one more thing

the C.O. “let slip” yesterday (in addition to the above 6 wk+ + Le Havre points)

& at the start of this letter I knew what it was & now I can’t

remember it. It wasn’t overall important; just a ramification

& confirmation of the above. After the envelopes sealed I will

remember.][6]

Let me again “float” about what Dr B. said:

“Gosh, he’s fine. He’s much better.” Oh geeeeeeee, dearest,

geeeee, gollllly, geeee! ———

Ill quick “rep” what I want to get home

for post-war information. The outfits we have

supported were 55% (of our work) the 36th, 45th, & 100th Divisions,

but we also did lots (45%) for the 3rd, 4th, 42nd, 44th, 60th,

63rd, 70th, 79th, 87th, 95th, 99th, 101 Air-Borne, [10th 12” 14” 20”}][7] Armored,

1st & 2nd Free French, AND the 17 S.S.-Panzer & the Herman

Göering Divisions. Add Doby’s 781st Tk. Bn. too, of course.

Say! a quickie thought Ive never asked your

oppinion-guess-judgement about, dear:—What do

you {know or read}[8] about Socialized Medicine’s {handling & placement}[9] of

specialists? Do you think (or know) that a specialist

would be better (OR WORSE?) off under Plans as they

soap-box them at present? All this isn’t an important

point or “incentive” re: going after Anesth. Boards—

it just a remote factor.

Gotta go—but, too, gotta tell you you have—

All my love, Dave
