(The first 2 pages are S.S. paper—this is “Honey”(’s) paper)
Your Apr 30th’s:- (1) Whumpf! You say
th in this letter newspapers are beginning to
uncover German atrocities—why! you
readers who havent been see-ers dont
just “register”-100%—I know I didnt.
And—then I read how Hayes office
suppressed a movie-length news reel of
it all. Such chicken-hearted, hindering,
ostrich-head-hinding [sic] Americans—
HOW WILL?! THEY EVER {“FACE” LEARN}[1] IT?!
(I surely hope all my Dachau letters reach you).
(2) Guess that Apr 7th’s $250 is March-
Captaincy—I got from Feb 17 (or 19?)
to mar 1st balance). (Rep:- Income blank sent).
Say! your adjective “horrific” is not
only good but cute ‘n clever. This
Dachau-deal is all horrific though we’ve
got it much much clearer in even so relatively few days.
4x I wrote about Hans[2] trying to get
me a $800 Leica camera. Others got ‘em, but
to date, Wilitzski[3] of course, possesses only about
a $50 Zeis Ikon whose scratched lens
may nullify much of its F 6.3, diaph 8cm,
1/100 of a second (only), etc, which isnt too bad
but far from the F 2{Leica or Robot}[4] others have.
Anyhoooo, you will love me c̅[5] a “Brownie,” eh?
AML[6], Dave
[1] In original, “’FACE’” is written above “LEARN”
[2] Hans Gerritsen, a Dutch paratrooper Wilsey became friends with while liberating Dachau.
[3] Wilsey’s nickname for himself.
[4] In original, “Leica” is written above “or,” which is written above “Robot.”
[5] Medical abbreviation meaning “with.”
[6] All my love.
