Somewhere—France
19 Jan 45 @ 9:45PM
Dearest,
I know you’ll forgive me if I just write
enough tonight to let you know I love you
so deeply; that I’m well; & that Im awfully tired.
I just must go to bed to get rested for once—
in what seems ages.
I certainly need the heartening stimulus
of a letter from you to give my psyche a lift—
just as I need to hurry to bed to give my
physiology a lift.
I hope my “8-pager” of two nights ago which[1]
I was so tired I forgot to mail until a day later
has reached you. Letters have (finally) come in the
past 2 days but nothing arrived from you.
Goodnight, Precious—oh I love
you so! c̅[2]
All my love,
Dave
P.S. Didya know that most every day I have to
push that bottom leather-margin on my picture holder
down so as to keep Thump’s[3] little ol’ toes
showing on the picture of you 2 together @ Lovell?
Gee, I hope some more come before too long.
[1] Illegible notes written in the right-hand margin, with lines pointing to “which,” and “later,” on the next line down.
[2] Medical abbreviation meaning “with.”
[3] Nickname for their infant son, Terry.
