Somewhere–France

15 Feb 45 c̅[1] 7th Army

My dearest,

I haven’t written you in what seems ages—

one whole day! But, I have been getting the upper hand

on a cold, & now that I’ve won, I feel exuberant. I

didn’t even sit up [when possible on off duty time][2] to take the

hour + that it takes to write ya. Insulted?!? Anyhooo

I’m goin’ to be 100% very shortly.

On yesterdays delivery (of mail) were Terry’s[3] two

swell cards; your cute grizzly & “low-dog” cards; a

quickie from Fran Lawton (taint worth forewarding); & your

2nd copy of the duplicated letter. Thanks Terry! –Thanks

Mammy!—for the swell cards.

In about 24-56 hours I have the chance of being

the lowest-egg or the most gratified guy—promotions

for captaincies are in & will be reported at a big

Activation Day Anniversary Party. Rumors are rampant &

wild as to whose on the order—all I know as of

the moment is that no one saw my name on it, but

nobody got a good/thorough look at it. Well, we’ll see.

Golly! I almost forgot to tabulate another (written)

letter that arrived c̅ all the above. It was your Feb 3rd’s

c̅ stamps [“TANKS”][4], & the 2nd batch of new-camera snaps.

I’m pleased about ‘em all, although I know you too

agree that #1 batch was a wee bit better. Anyhoooo,

I thank you so much darlin’ for all your “shooting”!

You can see/tell that I’m hurried in writing

this darlin’, but Ill do better that I’m not feeling

“dumpy” anymore. I love ya sooooooooooo!

Dave
