Dearest,
Tell Terry[2] that for 3 hours now I’m glad to be
able to give him $56 to $58 more a month—
in the form of a Captaincy. At supper tonight the CO
read off 4 Captaincies (sp?—ho! ho!) & a flock of 2nd Lt nurses
“upsed” to 1st Lt nurses. Sooooo, I guess that
in spite of my 2 major “f r i e n d s” it went through. I
really dont feel one bit different—I have (HONESTLY)
only one reaction—a financial reaction.
Oh yes—the Captain’s pay begins as of 16 Feb, but
the mail never got the orders here until today. It’s
all so new that I don’t know how or what to say about
the increased allotment I will send—except
panoramically to say that I’ll send just as much as
I can send—or better way to word it—I’ll
keep no more money than I use to keep formerly.
Last night as you know (unless gaposis or lost letters
figure into the picture) was the Activation Day Anniversary
part of the 116th (one year “old”). We had ice cream!—
our first since leaving the States. Naturally everybody
drank & I again (foolishly—yet “testingly”) tried champ-
agne. Oh that stuff!—how it “murders” you the
next day! I wasnt drunk or anything, on it, but it
just seems that any amount of champagne just “poisons”
me as regards “the-day-after.” Thus I chose this “quickie”
stationary to write on tonight because I’m going to bed early.
Your Feb 7th’s “”quickie” (c̅ delivery room cartoon) came today.
[P.S. I almost forgot to say I didn’t write last night].[3] There’s nothing
special in the answerin’-line so Ill just say I’m awfully
glad to receive any letter from my Precious—who has—
All my love,
Dave
P.S. come to think of it, I think Ill send you an EFM[4]—
it seems to me I saw a “Promotion” entry on the blank.
