Dachau Germany

15 May 45 @ 10PM

Dearest,

So much to say—so little

time till [sl]eep-time to say it in.

I’ll save the best till last.

Firstly, for the first time in my

Army life I wrote Army records/histories

all day———meaning Im out

of Anesth. because there just is no

anesthesia work/necessity to speak of

here at Dachau. It’s all starved, TB-

typhus infected, wrecks of humanity

who, if you operated any kind of

operation, you’d kill ‘em. However

I was lucky for 13 days not to be

put onto ward work———but

“the-honeymoon-is-over.” Really, Em,

its outright filthy sordidness to

be working c̅[1] these patients—

even a Chicago-N.Y. alum couldn’t

present you such cases!

Secondly, 3 letters came:—Apr 28ths [1 stamp=Tk’s][2]:-

(1) I haven’t had the chance to ask Charlie

Gillespie if his baby was nervous. (2) Im

glad the cheese is enroute—Ummm!

[2]

Anyhoooo, 2 of you swell pkgs

arrived:- (1) The clam, shreded-wheat-cracker,

candy, milk, etc one & (2) The “Noxema”

(thanks so much), envelopes, “Blue Mood”

cheese [THANKS MOM & DAD, A 1,000,000—

you shouldna done it][3], milk, bars, etc.

AND, your swell Wis “Dairyland Co”

(rep) pkg arrived yesterday c̅ its

s{upreme [s]uperb}[4] home-like wonderfulness.

Anyhooo, I’ll enclose pictures

to show you things we’ve been

living/”living” ———just as

I’ve always been (& FOREVER WILL) live—

All Our Three Loves,

Dave
