Bad Mergintheim (sp?) Germany

3 May 45   2 PM

Dearest,

As you can see[1] I have missed a day of writing

enroute. The trip was over 200 miles in a bouncing

6 by 6 truck, & it was too late (& too tired) to write

last night. The APO[2] “problem” of where to drop this,

as well as where to send incoming mail will

again be snafued for a few days days [sic] –––as

far as this army is concerned, I suppose—(AGAIN!).

I must tell ya sumthin’—I slept

from 12 midht night till 1PM this afternoon; a

“trick” which I havent done in years & especially

haven’t done in the Army. Anyhooo, there surin’

Hell isnt anything else to do in this place.

Usually Rest Camps are placed where some interesting

sites, “funs”, things are available—this place

has absoloutely nothing (not even a [decent][3] place to swim so

as to get clean, there being no hot water). The house-like

thing the 39 officers are in is a ½ rooming-½-sick-

room-like set up such as is all over Rochester.

People come here to drink water out of the springs

& bads (baths) that is “helpful to the liver & stomach”

(UNQUOTE) yet the water in faucets is so damn

polluted we still drink out of our GI water trailers

& canteens. All in all things are not like the

usual Rest Camp facilities the Army usually has as

S.O.P. for its men—again, just again, the C.O.

has really “pissed-us-off” (WE SPARTANS!) on the

concenience, nicities, cleanlinesses, & entertainment
